US take a breather coming into Easter as the bears rough up the bulls from the open. The main headlines for the day which pressured the marker was US Secretary of States visit to Moscow and comments saying that US-Russia relations are ‘at a low point’. Trump also caused concern in the market as he made it clear that Healthcare reform will once again take priority over tax reform. He also reiterated his feelings on the USD, and therefore interest rates, being too strong. Trump also mentioned that he was undecided on re-nominating Fed Chair Janet Yellen as there stance on the interest rates differ. Europe was again mixed going into the long weekend.

The VIX Index (a measure of the volatility in the market) sits at its highest level since the US elections showing signs that traders want to see results rather than talk to keep moving higher.

The USD was hit hard and fell on the back of Trumps comments to close lower at the bell. The weakness in the dollar was the main driver for gains in the EURO, AUD and Pound. The Pound also found strength after data showed that Britains wage growth was stronger than expected.

Gold pushed higher slightly on the weaker USD and geopolitical uncertainty, while Oil was slightly lower after yesterdays solid move.

The ASX200 is expected to open 20/30 points lower on the back of US uncertainty and ahead of the Easter break. The ASX200 may have a range bound session once the action from the open settles down.
